Sister - Twin
As a twin sister, there's plenty to share,
Not just the eyes, but also the hair.
There is certainly, a very close bond,
We can talk, without a respond.
Even close friends, occasionally confuse,
As individuals, we share different views.
Don't worry you're not seeing double,
Together we even, get into trouble.
Having a sister, that is my twin.
On so many levels, we mutually win.
As twins, we know what we think,
At the cellular level, there must be a link.

Sutton and Emma are long lost twin sisters who have never met and do not know the existence of each other until after Sutton dies. In Sutton’s first moments after her death she finds herself attached to Emma following her every move as a ghost. Emma cannot see Sutton, but she is willing to accept the theory of having a twin sister because she has sometimes felt a connection to having a sister before. Since they are identical twins it makes it possible for Emma to step into Sutton’s life without people noticing that Sutton is missing.
The lines “as a twin sister, there’s plenty to share, not just the eyes, but also the hair” connect to Sutton and Emma being connected through their shared identity. “There is certainly, a very close bond, we can talk without a respond” relates to how even though Sutton and Emma have never met there is still a bond between them that makes Sutton shadow Emma after her death unable to leave her side. They talk without a response because Sutton can hear and see everything Emma can and even though Emma cannot see/hear Sutton or respond to her she carries out what Sutton wants to know about who and how Sutton was killed
“Even close friends occasionally confuse, as individuals we share different views” relates to the situation of how Emma is a shy girl and Sutton is a confident and sometimes very mean person. The last stanza of the poem is similar to how Sutton thinks, “Emma was the only one apart from my killer who knew I was dead. She was the only chance I had” (Shepard 106). This expresses that the twins will mutually work together to solve this murder case and uncover the truth which is essentially them winning. “At a cellular level there must be a link,” relates to how in the lying game Sutton believes, “I consider here once again why I am here with Emma, watching her every move, hovering over her as she took my life. Old Mr. Hunt…, once told me that ghosts lingered in our world when they had unfinished business that prevented them from moving on to the next. Maybe that’s why I was here, too- to solve my own murder” (Shepard 104). This cellular link between the twins is how Sutton will be able to solve her own murder and that she is attached to Emma for a biologically connected reason. Sisters are connected through a strong bond stronger than any other and will do anything for one another even solve a murder case.
